Waterproof HV20
 

Hello all,

I am going on a snowboarding trip and wanted to bring my canon hv20.

Any tips in securing that the camera does not get damaged by the snow?

The forecast says its going to be about 0 with no snow or rain.

Any methods other than the plastic bag are welcomed.

Seriously though, I've been riding and shooting for a long time and have never taken any serious steps to protect my cameras, and never had a problem.

My HV20 just goes right in my jacket pocket, I pull it out to shoot, wipe off any snow, then pop it back in.

My Canon SD800 goes in the sunglasses pocket on my jacket, or sometimes I just hold it in my palm inside my glove.

If I'm bringing the Canon 20d or 1D mkII, then I bring a small backpack.

That's it! All my stuff has been snowed on and rained on and have never had a failure because of it. I'd sweat it more if it was raining on the hill, but I tend to avoid riding in the rain anyway.

At zero degrees, water is not liquid so no worries about waterproofing. However, two things to worry about are accidentally scratching the lens with snow and operating at such low temps. I just got back from Utah were it has been bone cold and the cam had a hard time operating sometimes. Other than that, ride hard and have fun.

Tape a handwarmer to the battery.
