HF10: Can't turn off Camera after Log & Trans

Hi.

I’ve posted this question before but had no response, so forgive me, but I’m going to try again.

Canon HF10, MacPro 2.8GHZ (8-Core), FCS2

The problem I have,

I put Canon HF10 select button to Blue Cam symbol on camera
-> I power up the HF10 to mains
-> USB connection to the Mac
-> Canon appears on the desktop as an orange coloured Hard Drive and I get the white Mac Hard Drive symbol as well (does anyone else get 2 x HD symbols on desktop?)
-> Canon HF10 LCD asks do I want to burn a DVD or have a PC connection,
-> I choose PC
-> HF10 then goes on to say that I can’t alter the current function or disconnect the power while in operation
-> Turn on FCP
-> Set to ProRes 422
-> Log and transfer all of my clips successfully.

Great so far, only now the camera doesn’t respond. I can’t turn it off by the power button. The only way I can turn off the camera is to remove the battery while it’s on or turn the camera of at he wall in which case I still have to remove the battery from the camera.

Does any one else have this problem?

Can anyone see anything wrong with my workflow?

Thanks

Michael

Just a thought, but have you tried ejecting the hard drive(s) that appeared on the desktop?

Hi Curtis.

Thanks. Yes, I can eject both drives no problem.

Michael, did you found out? Having the same problem...

Sorry for the late reply here, but once you've safely ejected the hardware, then it's okay to disconnect the USB cable and power off the camcorder.

Thanks Chris! Respectfully,

Hi Guys

Thanks Chris for that info. I have been disconnecting the battery, but I will just ignore the HF10 warning and disconnect the power cable and USB cable from here on in.

I'd be interested Eugene if it's just your's and my camera doing this. I'm not complaining, but I've not had a huge response to this issue, so is it just yours and mine?

Otherwise, I've been very happy with this little cam.

Cheers

Michael

Hi Michael, I don't think we both have to feel elected by Canon :-)
I guess all HF10 have this 'issue'. I don't bother...

This is a superb cam, I don't understand why there's not more anticipation going on. I sold a Canon XH-A1. I bought the HF10 : much better and easier workflow.

Once you go tapeless, you don't go back :-)
