Confused newbie with HV30, FCE4, iMovie09 & LiveType ( re: import, export settings )
 

Hi,

I’m a newbie who just purchased an HV30, FCE4, iMovie09 & LiveType. I have a few questions.

Right now I have my HV30 set to record in the HDV30p mode. What are the correct import settings to use in iMovie09 & FCE4 to get high quality results? I imported my first video in using iMovie and then exported via XML to FCE4 and the “item properties” say the video is:

29.97 fps
960x540

If the camera is shooting in 30p why does the fps now = 29.97?

What is the correct setting in each application to use to be consistent including LiveType? Do I have to use a specific custom setting to be consistent across all? Does it matter which application iMovie or FCE4 to use to import the footage? Is one better than the other for overall quality using the HV30? I want to use the video to make high quality web shows and also high quality DVDs. All the options are confusing to me. Could you give me a quick and dirty summary?

Any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The frame rate really is 29.97 fps, even if it is called 30.
