Lavalier & Shotgun Question?

What do I have to do to use a shotgun mic and a lavlier mic at the same time with my HV30?

Thank you,
Gabe

You need an add-on microphone adapter such as Beechtek DXA-2S or one of their other models. Similar equiment is made by JuicedLink and Sign Video. These let you use xlr mikes or xlr line inputs, adjust their input levels independently, and output to your mike input on the camera. Alternatively, you could use a field mixer, but it's way more expensive and hard to use if you're a one-person band, imho....B&H Photo and VideoGuys are pretty good sources for this stuff, if you want to compare the features....good luck! / Battle Vaughan/miamiherald.com video team

Battle Vaughan pretty much nailed it. If the shotgun is camera mounted you'd want a shockmount for it. Otherwise, I'll assume your shotgun is boom or stand mounted. It's a great arrangement for sound reinforcement.

I use a zoom h4 audio recorder, it supports a wide variety of inputs and has a 1/8in monitor output which i feed to the camera. it also lets you record at 48k 16 or 24bit or 96k 16 or 24bit. i have a shoe to 1/4in adapter that lets me mount it ontop of my cam also. they also just released the h4n which has more functionality...
