Problem Monitoring HF11 via HDMI to Acer Monitor

I am trying out a new Acer P215H 21.5" monitor with my HF11. The monitor is capable of 1920x1080p and has HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs. I have a variety of third-party HDMI and DVI cables and adapters but I don't have the genuine Canon mini-HDMI to HDMI cable.
When monitoring from the camera using a third-party mini-HDMI to HDMI cable, the image isn't great and has noticeable interlace artifacts. The monitor indicates it's receiving a signal that is 1920x540. Unless the monitor is hooked to a computer, there are extremely limited user controls to change the display.
I have also hooked my WD HD Media Player to the monitor via HDMI and the resulting image from playback of edited programs shot with the HF11's progressive footage looks great and is indicated by the monitor as 1920x1080.
I also have a third-party mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter, that I have used with several of the HDMI or HDMI-to-DVI cables that worked perfectly between the Media Player and the monitor. The results with the adapter ranged from extremely bad to ok (but no better than with the mini to regular HDMI cable that I used the first time). I suspect the adapter is poorly made and doesn't have good contact with some of the cables.
Has anyone invested in the genuine Canon mini-HDMI to HDMI cable and had excellent results and if so with which HDMI monitor in this size?
This Acer monitor doesn't have component inputs so I can't compare that using the included Canon component cable.

Finally had a chance to hook the HF11 camera to a different monitor via the third-party mini-HDMI to HDMI cable. That image looked very good and the monitor indicated the specs of the input signal correctly.
I suspect the Acer monitor isn't correctly accepting the camera's HDMI signal and I have read other people reporting similar problems with some Acer monitors when using with various camera HDMI outputs.
I will likely use the Acer as a computer monitor instead and search for a different monitor to use with the camera.
