HV40 questions
 

Do you know if the HV40 can send 1920x1080 to Adobe OnLocation or is it limited to sending HDV resolution 1440x1080 through the firewire to computer?

Also, since this camera only records 1440x1080 on tape, what are the liabilities when mixing it with 1920x1080 video from other sources?

HDV output via Firewire is always 1440x1080. The HDMI and analog component outputs will provide full 1920x1080 playback, so if using Black Magic Intensity Pro or Matrox MXO2 Mini for instance, then you can capture at the full 1920x1080.

You can mix 1440x1080 clips into a 1920x1080 project or vice-versa, but depending on the edit software, you may have to render the non-native clips.

We'll be editing in Premiere Pro CS4. Does the 1440 resolution look different than video shot in 1920? I'm trying to wrap my mind around blending different source material and whether in this case it would be visually noticeable... at least in theory.

We're also trying to figure out whether there's any liabilities to acquiring in 1440 vs 1920. We're on the verge on buying our first HD format camera. Want to future proof this decision as much as possible.

Kent... you'll want to get Cineform... it works very well with your camera and it will
conform 1440 to 1920 for you before you put it on the timeline of Premiere...

How well does the HV40 perform in low light? Do the newer AVCHD cameras do better?

The latest avchd cams are bound to have the edge but IMO the HVs especialy in P mode are fairly good in low light ,this film i have found has varying light conditions.
