Usb device not recognized
 

I'm trying to upload footage to my computer through IEEE 1394 4 pin firewire Cable and I get Usb device not recognized. However one time i plugged it to my computer and it said new device found. hmm i wonder what i did. Can anyone help me with this

In my experience, it is very unusual to get "USB device not recognized" from a firewire connection. What are your system specs?

ok update you cant use usb with firewire with it..so now my laptop wont recognize the camera my 1934 port is detected used 2 different firewire cords and it still wont detect... when im trying to capture footage in sony vegas 9, window movie maker, hdvsplit, windv i get nothing

Thanks for the update and you are 100% correct the connections are unique between the 2 standards. Each is backwards compliant with itself USB 3.0 -> USB 2.0 -> USB 1.0 and Firewire 800 -> Firewire 400 but neither is directly cross compliant. I have heard of Firewire to USB adapters, but I have never seen one in action nor do I hold much stock in their reliability.

From your first post I am guessing you are trying to export footage from a Canon HV30. According to the manual downloaded from the Canon HV30 page, you will need to purchase a cable for this. I am assuming from your replies you have acquired this. The HDV/DV jack is located at the rear of the camera (page 76 of the manual) and once connected to your computer you would then switch to play mode. At this point the computer should identify either an IEEE 1394 device or AVCHD device has been connected. You should then be able to capture via your editing software. Are you using Sony Vegas studio 9 or Sony Vegas Pro 9?

What are your system specs? I gather you are using XP SP3 but what are the rest of the specs? Model, processor, ram, etc....
