What tapes are you all using...
and what kind of results are you getting?

I used Panasonic 63 MQ's a few times but observed the static dropout rate at times. I switched to the SONY HDV tapes and have NO dropouts at this time.

I recently read that Panasonic tapes are supposed to be better than others, due to a certain coating that is (or isn't?) non-existant only on their tapes. Supposedly better for the head of the camcorder, will increase its life span without having to clean it...
My memory is shady though....anyone know any more about this? |
Sony tapes work best for me. Tried a couple of panasonics and tdk's but had dropouts.

Tape
I was using the Panasonic PQ's then bought a batch of MQ's and have had no problems for 4 months ( crosses fingers ). I have had no problems with the PQ's ever since I started using them 5 years ago.

Cheap Sonys.

Panasonic 63m MQ's. Just remember: Panasonic= dry lube, Sony= wet lube.
Pick one or the other and stick with it. If you mix wet and dry you'll gunk your heads up and have to send your camera in for a pro cleaning. |
OH is that ever the truth. I get repairs daily in our shop due to mixing tapes. I actually have one deck for dry and another for Sony-wet.
Wet + Dry=Varnish on heads. Even a cleaning tape will soon fail to work. ALSO...Panasonic will be discontinuing the PQ tapes and will be introducing a new line of Hi-Def tapes. The AMQ's will still be released. Quote:

I understand that the new tapes Panasonic is coming out with are going to be in the $12 range. If this is the case this is gonna suck. That means I am going to have to charge my client 1200 extra to cover the cost. Just kidding.
