HV10 sample MuskOx footage
 

Hello, got an HV10 basically to use as a deck for the XLH1. My favorite is filming wildlife. Took my HV10 out to make a test, here is the result.
The footage show a good friend of mine and her dog visiting the Muskoxen at Dovrefjell NationalPark Norway.
I should have used a ND- or Pola filter, but unfortunately I didn't. The footage was mostly done to get a hand on the camcorder, test it on cold weather. Note: the camcorder function was very good but the battery capasity is bad. You need spare batteries if you're not able to charge. Luckily I had a spare BP-315 wich is a lot better than the original BP-310.

The footage is captured and edited in Avid Liquid 7.1, 1080/50i timeline. Exported as a Mpeg 2, compressed with Sorenson Squeeze Suit 4.5.

Well, you sold me! Got my XLH1 a few weeks ago and wanted to get an HV10 as a second camera and to capture with.

That is beautiful footage! I enjoyed it very much.

It does a better job handling the snow then I would have expected. Were you shooting auto? I noticed the snow detail disappeared a tad and it started to blow out in a couple of the scenes but overall handled it pretty well.

Per, very nice. It never ceases to amaze me how this tiny wonder can produce HD video right up there with the big boys!

Great video Per- The snow really does look good especially considering no polarizer. I'll be taking mine climbing in the Alps this summer, glad to here it works in cold weather.

Thanks for sharing that...I got a chance to get up and personal with the HV-10 at a "Wired Magazine" Pop up store on Houston Street here in NYC.

[Of course, I wouldn't buy from it them...B&H has them down to $949!]

It feels really nice in the hand and I can picture myself carrying this around everywhere.

These vertical matchbox style cams are ergonomically okay in my opinion...it is like holding a gun.

I am so tempted to get one...

John I am with you I carry it everywhere now that I have it. It is alot like holding a gun and if you think of it that way you can control it better... Hold out your pointer finger while holding the HV-10 in the same hand and you will understand what i am talking about do that for half an hour and you will have practice the best control for this camera.

In the spirit of Per's great little short here's my little test "wildlife" shot. It's not as entertaining as his but is a pretty good test of the lens at wide to full zoom. You can download the "HV10-ducks" file off my public folder here:

Pardon the somewhat jerky pans as I shot this using my still cam tripod with photo style ballhead. Zooms were done using the remote. I'm still pretty amazed at the quality of the picture from this cam. You have to work a little harder in post to get the max out of the files but given the cost it's worth it.
