HV20 24p shutter speed?

Does anybody have any idea what they think will be used for the shutter speed during the 24p recording mode. I sure hope if they clock the chip at 24p they would also clock the shutter at 48. If the shutter is stuck at 60 or something higher it could make the 24p a little jerkier then usual compared to 24p shot at a 1:48th shutter. This so far is my only concern for the HV20. I have downloaded and watched a 24p clip from the HV20 and it does look good but it is hard to tell with that clip what is going on in terms of shutter speed.

Good question! I think I might be able to find out... stand by.

Chris Hurd February 7th, 2007 02:26 PM

Confirmed, shutter speeds in 24p are: 1/6, 1/12, 1/24, 1/48, 1/60, 1/100 ... 250... 500... 1000... 2000.

Hope this helps,

Chris that is some sweet news. Very good information indeed. Thank you.

For complaining that this camcorder is missing a focusing ring around the lens and no 30p, I’m glad it has a 24 and 48 hertz mode because using 30 hertz or 60 hertz wouldn’t be so good for 24p.

Does anyone know if the pulldown in 24p will be 2:3:3:2, 2:3 or switchable?

Chris Hurd February 8th, 2007 12:31 PM

The pull-down will not be switchable. It is a *consumer* camcorder.

Does that mean we'll have as hard a time with removing pulldown for true 24p editing? If so, is there a way to do it properly? Does it look good?

Chris Hurd February 8th, 2007 08:43 PM

You're asking questions about a camcorder that isn't even available yet (not outside of Japan, anyway). Nobody's going to know how it looks until it starts shipping.

You'll always have a good 25p option from the PAL version.

À propos, Chris can you help us on the shutter speed mode en ce qui concerne to the PAL version? 1/48? 1/50?

Merci.

MK

Not as easy for me, Mathieu, but I'll see what I can do.

But the 60- (or 59.94-) hertz setting (which should act like a 144-degree shutter on a motion picture camera) would be better if an active 60i TV monitor is in the shot.
