Canon HV20 vs Everio
 

I too almost bought an HV10 but was turned off with the lack of audio input, etc. And, am quite excited about the HV20.

However, I'm surprised there's not more hubbub about the new JVC Everio. It too looks VERY promising with loads of control in a small package. Why have most already written off this one? Am I missing something?

The Canon HV10 and 20 have the capability of playing back XH A1/G1 and XL H1 24F footage, so it can be used as a deck for those cameras. That seems to be the main interest around here. Can't do that with JVC. And, since the Everio uses a hard disc, what are you going to do to save your footage?

Nobody has written this camera off, as there is nothing to write off yet. I, for one, am very excited about this camera, and the HV20. Its just that JVC is still keeping a lot of stuff secret about their cam for now. Anytime a new camera is announced, you are always going to have people badmouthing and people praising. the way of the world brother...

The only reason that their seams to be a lot of praise for the HV20 is because of the 24p feature. If JVC announces that the HD7 have a 24p feature then I promise you the threads will explode.

What if they don't?

Will it be considered over-priced when compared to the HV20?

I know it has other features but image is king, is it not? I guess it all depends on what you are looking for.

Not too sure about that. But, if it were a MiniDV tape camera then you would have something. The guys and gals with the current crop of JVC HDV cameras would have something to capture their footage on. I'm sure they would like that.

They did mention that there are features in that camcorder that they won’t mention until the camcorder is almost released. Because this camcorder has GS400 type manual controls, the price is very well worth it and besides JVC has already lowered the price by 100 dollars because of the HV20 and who know, they may actually lower it by 100 dollars again if the camcorder doesn’t have a 24p feature.

As for image quality, it has an advanced MPEG2 decoder which stores a full 1920X1080 straight to hard drive in a variable bit rate of about 26.6MBPS and it goes up to 30MBPS. HDV is 1440X1080 with a constant bit rate of about 25MBPS.
