HV10 Sample Video - What a camera!!

This is my very first edited sample from the HV10.

http://blip.tv/file/167164

It's been compressed using the new 'Apple TV' setting in Quicktime. So whilst it certainly not the full 1080i, it is a nice compromise between download time and video quality.

I'll be posting plenty more articles regarding the HV10 (and other lesser video devices) over at www.thecreativelifeblog.com

Very nice piece!

The sunsets are gorgeous as well as the landscapes.

and how perfect for that bunny to run across as you were filming!!! I bet you were thrilled when you saw that. I love moments like that..the unintended perfect timing capture!

Nice stuff.

btw, how do you do the different depth focusing in one shot like the one with the fence in the foreground? I would really love to learn how to do that.

James, where did the music come from?

Top job, very nice indeed.

James Burland March 12th, 2007 02:13 AM

Brad: Thank you! The timing of the rabbit was superb! I could have waited all day for that - but I'd just that minute arrived (^_^)

The focus stuff was 50/50, some using the manual focus, some just using the auto-focus, which it must be said, is rather special on the HV10.

Tim: Cheers! The music is . . .

Passaggio by Ludovico Einaudi, and can be found on the iTunes Store.

His music is ideal for this kind of subject matter.

my browser cant play this mov file.
Why quicktime??
Can i download and play it with VLC?

James Burland March 12th, 2007 03:33 AM

Prech: Well, I guess you have Quicktime installed, if so, then your browser really should be able to play it back. It will take a few seconds to get going however.

I think there are sites that will allow you to grab video from Blip.tv, you could try this and play it back in VLC . . . I think!

Fantastic. I agree, the music blends very nicely with the scenery, I was impressed.

It's the synergy of the music and video that means, for me at least, video nearly always trumps still photography. And now that each frame is practically a decent quality still in it's own right, it just further solidifies the advantages of video of stills.

It's quite a thrill knowing that I can now capture practically any scene in a quality I could never have imagined just 5 years ago!

In short, I love the HV10!

I second that sentiment whole heartedly!

David

Thanks David. Plays well under mplayer/linux.

James,

Thank you for taking the time to post this edit. This video helps confirm that the HV10 (or) HV20 will be my next major purchase. Do you happen to have any frozen still full frames of your footage that could be posted? I have two DSLRs now and was considering purchasing a smaller digital camera to have as a carry around. I would much prefer a video camera. If either still grabs or camera mode pictures will produce at least a good 4x6, I see no need in purchasing a SD800 or other pocket camera.

Thanks again for the footage...

Robert

Hi Robert!

Yep, no problem, in fact I'm just in the middle of writing a blog post about the still capability of the HV10.

You'll find it over at www.thecreativelifeblog.com, shortly.

I'll have some more video footage up soon too!

Great James! I'll be on the lookout for them.

I have a Sony SR1 but after watching this sample video I'm planning to sell it and get a Canon HV-20. Sony, wake up!
