let's test the remote

Why don't one of you confirm the remote doesn't work from the rear? Canon always seemed to have a problem with that...would be nice if they finally got it right.

Someone? Anyone?

The HV-10 has the IR sensor in the rear it works very well, but I personally like the placement in the front plane like the 20.

Bought one today + wireless zoom results

I just walked in and picked one up today.

Not sure if I can say who, since they're not a DVInfo sponsor (but they're a legit brick-and-mortar photography business here in SLC, Utah). I was planning on buying it from BH but they're currently out of stock, and closed all next week. <shrug>

I just tested the wireless remote - was about 5 feet away from the barstools and countertop in my kitchen. Holding the remote with my left hand about 3 inches in front of the HV20 (tripod-mounted), I tried it in 3 different positions:

1. Pointing directly up at the ceiling - didn't work at all.
2. Pointing forward at the barstools - worked fine until I backed up beyond about 5 feet away from them - I guess the reflection factor is too weak after that.
3. Pointing back at the HV20 - worked fine.

So basically, no, the remote doesn't work from behind unless it has something relatively close to reflect it back to the sensor on the front of the camera.

Hope that helps!
