HV20 with Panasonic 43mm filter kit
 

I bought the Panasonic 43mm filter kit with MC protector (UV filter) and ND filter (ND8).
Additionally it comes with a lens cap to protect the filters.

The UV filter obviously doesn't do too much but I mainly use it to protect the lens.

For shooting the sky the ND filter is quite usefull as you can see here:

The filters fit perfectly, are of a good quality and are low priced.

I downloaded your filter video and was especially impressed with how high the video quality was for the relatively small file size, essentially 1 MBytes/sec. I notice that it is encoded in mpeg4.

I very much appreciate the filter comparison (my original reason to download) but I now am wondering what software you used to produce such beautiful compression.

Thank you very much David for your assistance. I have downloaded and run VirtualDub-Mpeg2 with the XVid 1.1.2 installer, and have a question regarding the XVid settings you have used.

To get the same approximate bitrate of your "filter" file, I set the Target Quantizer to approx 20. This yields the same ~1MByte/sec rate of your recording. I am using the "hidef" profile. I am using the default single pass encoding. The resize and sharpen filters appear to be set correctly since I render very sharp, correctly sized frames.

My colors, however, are very weak and muted. Is this also your experience, and do you use any other filters to increase saturation, or perhaps I have something set wrong.

Your colors look excellent whereas mine look very weak.

I would appreciate any comments.

And yes you will loose saturation but normally it shouldn't be too much.
If it's too much I mostly rerender with the "HSV adjust" filter set to ~105% saturation.

Basically my source material was already really colorfull, that's why I left it without a saturation increase.

The ND filter definitely works for the cloud shots, but in your clips of the dog I'm having a hard time deciding whether I prefer the results of the MC filter or the results of the ND filter. The MC filter appears more natural and the ND appears enhanced. David, which appears closer to your eyes while recording? Does anyone else have a preference among these two filters in that particular scene?

What about the same questions about the initial backyard scene? The MC filter seems to grab the the shadow detail better with a flatter overall image, and the ND filter appears more vivid with more contrast but not too much contrast. I generally like the ND filter results better but wonder if anyone feels that it's at the expense of dynamic range.

The MC Filter or no filter at all is generally closer to reality, that's why I only use the ND Filter while shooting scenes of the sky.

The filter set is called "Panasonic VW-LF 43 NE-K".
