HV20 PAL with Anamorphic Lens
 

Here is some HV20 Pal footage, with a few shots in 2.35:1 thanks to a Soligor anamorphic lens, who brings the posibility to not waste any pixel with black bars, using all 1920x1080 pixels of the CMOS. Plus it gives more image on the left - right corners, instead of the wider effect on all the corners of a regular wide lens, and let you compose directly on a scope format.

The bad thing is a slighty loss of sharpness in the extreme left - right corners. As you can see on the sample, nothing to worry about.

It's in 720p@25 (DIVX), and the 2.35:1 shots are corrected in premiere pro, so they have lost it's original size in order to present the correct A.R.

Plus, I have done massive color corrections with Cineform in Premiere Pro, and the images still look consistent.

Which soligor anamorphic lense did you use, please?
Soligor is very affordable.... what if Century Optics made one for this camera (even better quality?).....?

I buyed from a german store in ebay for my projector to get a 2.35:1 screen, but now I planning buy another one just for de camera.

There was no deinterlace process, because it was shot with the PAL HV20, who records directly in 25p. You can simply edit with any software in a 25p or a 50i timeline. In this case, Premiere Pro.

Anyhow, if you can't select a 25p timeline, every transition or movement effect is going to have the 50i look.

Really ? so the HV20 25p movie is seen like a real progressive movie by the software like Premiere Pro ? I thought that it was a 50i the same and the machine did a 2:2 deinterlace...

Wich is, for you, the best version of Premiere Pro to use ?
Do you use this software in general for what ?

...Sorry for my few question, but I ordered my Canon HV20, I'm waiting for it and in this time I try to inform me about the SW to use with it...

Your sample is very very good! ...the 2,35 format give a impressive result, but the quality in general is very high !

The PAL HV20, has two HDV recording modes: 50i and 25p, instead of the 60i and 24p of the NTSC version, wich needs a pulldown process to extract the 24p of the 60i stream. In PAL is simple, beacause the only difference between 50i and 25p is that the fields are or not of the same frame.

Premiere Pro works great (especially 2.0), but edit HDV it's not as easy like DV. One of the best options it's to use a Cineform codec, who brings you fast realtime editing without wasting a lot of disk space, and more important, with barely noticeable quality degradation.
