Chip size

I'm seeing people refer to the chip on the HV20 as 1/4" although Canon list 1/2.7" (not something you can say) Translation; 1/2.5" would be halfway between 1/2" and 1/3" so 1/2.7" would be slightly larger than 1/3". I've been getting a decent shallow DOF with this camera. Better than what I was getting from my 1/3 inch Sony PD-150 that I sold in order to get this one. Also, if I understand this correctly, by removing the pulldown, I am getting 1080 24p. Is that right? I understand that it originates as 1440x1080i but 1080 24p sounds amazing from such a small form. I'm lovin it so far.
