FP24 and 24F

Canon's documentation for my HF-S200 on the difference between these two purportedly progressive frame settings is sketchy. I recorded some footage on FP24, brought it into Vegas Studio Platinum 12, and set "None" for field interlacing in the project settings. When I played the footage (computer monitor), rapidly moving objects broke up into horizontal lines. After setting "upper field first" in the project settings, the video plays without this artifact.

Can someone explain to me
1. what the difference between Canon's two settings is, and
2. why I would need to set an interlacing in my editor

Thanks.

Re: FP24 and 24F

24PF mode records the 24 frames with pulldown into a 60i signal. So essentially, 24PF mode is a 60i video file with the look of 24p.

24P mode records a native 24 frame, progressive file, without any interlacing. In my experience this is the more useful mode when editing footage on a computer, and should theoretically be better in quality.

Check out page 162 in the manual.
