A native 1080i60 .MXF clip: "bounce card" at DVinfo.net

Here's a native .MXF file, 38 seconds long, shot in 1080i60. I believe the camera settings are at full auto. The set is a shooting gallery in the Canon booth at NAB 2010. I've looked at this clip several times using the Sony XDCAM Viewer as well as the VLC media player, and I have to say there's a big difference. VLC doesn't like interlace while the Sony XDCAM Viewer isn't affected by it. At any rate, the clip is best viewed on an HDTV.

I can't seem to get this to play correctly in a Premiere sequence. I thought it was supposed to already work.

VLC has the option to deinterlace the footage. Option is under Video > Deinterlace. I'll download this file and see how it looks :). Thanks for providing the file.

been watching it at intervals during the course of the day and then going back to confirm my suspicions.

Just scrolled through it at a snails pace (using VLC) and the interlace lines (watching on a Dell 24" progressive LCD, with interlace disabled in VLC) during movement (watch her hand when she brushes back her hair to her right) are horrendous, as are the jaggies at every texture break.

This, surely, can't be Canons "next big thing"?

Crumbs, and I thought HDV had serious problems!

Tell me this is an order of magnitude better with another viewer, PLEASE!

Chris, I went into the deinterlace menu and chose linear and I don't happen to see the same thing you're describing. Have you tried going to deinterlace in VLC?

Once again: I saw that in VLC, but there's none of it in Sony XDCAM Viewer -- there it's as clean as a whistle.

So yes, it is an order of magnitude better with another viewer, but I had already said that.

watching in VLC, it wasnt the greatest player i think. looked ok on the HDTV 37", but is still a little noisy for my liking. it looked like my hdv footage. is this something that is just with the clip in VLC player, the fact it is auto settings, and no picture settings(cause this camera has a lot of tweaking ability to it). the noise is the main reason i dropped my A1 and was gonna go Ex1r route cause even in low light with a 35mm adapter the ex1r look clear in midtones. so is the clip cleaner if brought in properly? though there are too many variables to look at i guess.

Reset from dork mode and switched my screen to HD from 1280 X 1024 (hey, it's the only way I can read anything!).

Problem solved.

Sure looks better than HDV now, even in VLC.

Will give the other viewer a shot later.

Yup. I viewed this file in VLC both without and with de-interlace enabled. This file looks pretty darn good to me ! I know about the jaggies in VLC with interlaced material. I would say it looks as good, or even just slightly better than with my XL H1 recording from the uncompressed HD-SDI output into my Flash XDR Solid State Digital CF Card Recorder set @ 50 Mbps Long GOP (Which is Sony XDCAM HD 4:2:2 Full Raster HD). Those CMOS sensors truly reveal their superior lower light signal to noise ratio. I wonder what would happen if I grabbed that XF 305 camera and recorded to my Flash XDR via its HD-SDI output, but this time set the codec in the XDR to record at 280 Mbps (I-Frame Intra within the XDR Recorder) ? The level of detail present in the brunet lady's hair and face was consistent with some 2/3 inch CCD broadcast XDCAM footage I've seen. Too bad there is not a SSD version of the XL H1 camera offering interchangeable lens capability.
