XF200 and mattebox?

I've been looking at photos of the XF300, and noticing that the built-in mic sticks way out front. Has anyone tried attaching a mattebox to the XF300 or XF305? Does that mic get in the way?

Ken

(Whoops! The title is supposed to say XF300, not XF200. Can't seem to edit that.)

Hi Ken,

Steev was kind enough to post his unwrapping of his new XF305. And he has a Genus mattebox to go along with it as well. I think the only problems he had with the mattebox was the riser, to level it up with the cam.

Thanks Jeff.
Looking at Steev's video, the mattebox clears the mic, and just barely clears the LCD.
I have a Formatt mattebox, which seems to be about the same shape and size and the Genus, but it's just a screw-on, so there's no alignment problem.

I have the camera in our show room with the Arri MMB-1 matte box on the Arri MBP-1 plate......not problems at all. I should get the newer Chrosziel 450W box in a few days and I'll try it...not expecting any problems. The RedRock box should be here this week and I'll give it a shot too....

Thanks Jim, glad to hear it. Doest that Chrosziel clamp/screw on, or use rails? It would be great if you could post a photo of the xf300 with the Chrosziel.

The Chrosziel 450W box is set up to go on rods......

with fixed lens there is no need for rods. I will check this one for less than 200 €.

Be careful with such a cheap price as you get what you pay for. That cheap Indian-made film gear is universally poor quality.

Cinevate XF300/305 Rig

Canon was kind enough to send us an XF300/305 for rigging so we of course promptly rigged it up with our Durus Follow Focus, Titan Swing Away Mattebox, and full Proteus QR carbon rails system with shoulder mount and counterbalance. We had already manufactured the .5 pitch follow focus drive gear mold, but to date have not listed it in our catalog (it will be listed next week). The Titan mattebox still swings away but has been modified to prevent contact with the XF microphone and swing out LCD. We're going to be purchasing one of these cameras for our own use, and of course to make sure it works well with our Brevis lens adapter system. Hubert took some very nice shots of the rigged Canon. It's a gorgeous cam!
