Cover for rear EVF on XF300 series?

I find that I don't use the rear EVF on my 305 and have to keep tape over the eyepiece to avoid sun burns.

I found that I could slide off the eyepiece, which makes the camera shorter and easier to take in and out of my bag. But the EVF is now exposed.

My question is--does Canon make a plastic cover that will slide over the EVF in place of the eye piece?

I couldn't find anything like this on the Canon website, but thought someone here may know of something.

Rob,

I am sorry you did not read my post more carefully.

I am not looking for a cover for the eyepiece. As I stated in my post, I REMOVED the eyepiece and am now looking for a cover for the EVF.

Just so you know, there is a small latch underneath the EVF. You slide it toward the camera and you can then slide off the eyepiece. You will see the EVF exposed. I am looking for something to cover it.

Re: Cover for rear EVF on XF300 series?

Rather than risk an exposed EVF to the elements, I would do the following:

.Remove the LARGE eyecup but keep the square cup intact.

.Go into the menu and shut-off the rear EVF so only the LCD is functionable

.Order one of those three dollar caps and insert the cap.

http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/attachme...22813-evf-caps

.Place a small piece of black electrical place over the rear cap

The above will prevent any small pieces of debris, dust, sand etc. from scratching the exposed surface of the actual EVF, which is sensitive to even minute pieces of the above.

I think I'll stick with my baby sock over the whole piece. Done this for years. Makes putting the evf back in use much easier in the field. Now that I have a baby girl, I'll have to switch to a pink sock once she outgrows them!

I had the same problem and designed my own cap and got it 3D printed.

The cap slides in, clicks in place and can be easily removed to attach the eyepiece if needed.

It is available from Shapeways. The price includes worldwide UPS shipping.

The Shapeways price also includes a $1.80 markup (that I will earn) to get the piece above the minimum order value of $25 excl.VAT.
I contacted Chris Hurd and he allowed me to post the link above.

Thank you Martin for being the only one to read and understand my post, but, more importantly, providing me with a solution. Bravo.

I have ordered the cap you designed.

Thank you so much.

I will post feedback once I receive.

Thanks again.

Does it work on an XF100, and is it still needed?

You're welcome Bob. I wished Canon had put such a cover into the box.

Philip, sorry I dont have a XF100 but I'm quite sure this cup only fits on the XF300 or XF305.

No it does not fit the XF-100. I have a few of them for my XF-300 which I sold.

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $25 dollars for ONE cap? It is only a few bucks directly from Canon. Fits snuggly and even has the "CANON" logo.

The cost is $2.95 each and shipping is $6.95. I purchased several....which I no longer need and included the shipping price above.

I would order a few directly from CANON PROFESSIONAL PARTS as they can get lost easy.

Re: Cover for rear EVF on XF300 series?

Lou, just to clarify "your" cap does not the same as "my" cap.

The purpose of the $25 cap is to have an as short XF300/305 as possible just as the thread starter asked for.

3D printing is expensive but what other options do I have if I want to cover the remaining viewfinder piece today?
Unfortunately Canon doesn't offer this particular cap. I wished they or someone else would!

Again, this thread is about having a smaller XF300/305 if you don't need the viewfinder or to make it easier to take it in and out of a bag.

Martin,

The rear cover you designed arrived today and I am more than pleased. It fits perfectly on my 305 and shortens the camera, making it easier to move in and out of its case. Thank you for getting this made and available for all of us to use. Best wishes.
