Getting Good Exposures With The Canon XF100?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any tips for getting
good exposures?

I have a couple of Doug Jensen's DVD and they
are awesome.

I would prefer to use a larger aperture 2.8.

I guess using the Zebra bars set for Zebra 2
at 100% and watching for the Zebra pattern
is a good rule to follow.

Any other exposure tips?

Craig

Learn to use the built in wave form monitor. That's one of the prime reasons to buy that camera IMHO.

I am not a big fan of these waveform monitors. Too small on the XF-100.

I have better luck with the Zebra stripes in tandem with peaking for focus.

The XF100 has these also. A couple of excellent ways to get good exposure. And good focus.

As to zebras, IIRC you can set them to different levels. So one for faces (in the 70-80% IRE range for caucasian, darker for darker faces), the other at, say 100% so you can see where you loose all highlight detail.

I tend to think of wave form monitors as more useful for setting up a scene (lighting, etc.) and zebras as more useful during the shooting of said scene. But between the two of them, you should be able to nail your exposures with some practice.
