Re: XF100 - Firmware Update

There is a firmware update for XF100, 105,300 and 305 and I was going to wait to see how it works with everyone else before doing it myself. It looks like language support but I can't tell what else. Here's the letter I received from Canon.

Dear David,

Thank you for using Canon products.

Canon has released a firmware update for the XF305 / XF300 / XF105 / XF100 High Definition Camcorders.

Affected Products
XF305 High Definition Camcorder
XF300 High Definition Camcorder
XF105 High Definition Camcorder
XF100 High Definition Camcorder

Firmware
Firmware Version 1.0.3.0 for the XF305/XF300 and Firmware Version 10.2.0 for the XF105/XF100 incorporates the following improvements:

Adds Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Polish and Simplified Chinese languages to the camcorder's menu.
For more information on this improvement, please visit the Canon website to download the latest version of the instruction manual for the XF305/XF300 or the instruction manual for the XF105/XF100.

XF305/XF300
Firmware Version 1.0.3.0 is for camcorders with Firmware Version 1.0.0.0 through 1.0.2.0. If the camcorder's firmware is already Version 1.0.3.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Once the camcorder is updated to the latest version, it cannot be restored to a previous version. Clips recorded with Firmware Version 1.0.2.0 will not be recognized by the bundled Canon XF Utility Ver. 1.0 application. Please update to Canon XF Utility Ver. 1.1., which is available for download on the Canon website.

The Firmware Version 1.0.3.0 and the Canon XF Utility Version 1.1 for the XF305 can be downloaded by clicking here.

Re: XF100 - Firmware Update

I agree, it looks like it just adds new languages.

Re: XF100 - Firmware Update

If there is no functional update, and I haven't been able to find any mention of that, only languages that I don't use, I think I will pass on this one.

Re: XF100 - Firmware Update

This update shouldn't be called firmware but marketware! It's business only, not an upgrade or update. Positive note: Although the product doesn't get any better than it is, it IS good to know there are more XF users out there.
