Importing plain XF100 mxf files

Hi All,

We have recently bought a Canon XF100. Is there a way to transfer only the MXF files from the CF card to a PC, not bundled with all the other data files in folders. Sony's XDCAM HD files are all together in one folder. With XDCam EX and JVC I can use Sony XDCAM browser to do this but it seems not to work with Canon. The Utility software also does only transfer folders, not just the MXF files.

Help is appreciated. Thanks.

Gabor

Use the Canon XF Utility. Edit / Export to MXF.

Re: Importing plain XF100 mxf files

Yes, you can. I archive all my files, but for editing, I use the XF Utility software that came with the camera to copy just the MXF files I need. It's very simple to do:

Put the CF card into a card reader connected to your PC.
Open the XF Utility program
In the left hand margin, you should see your CF card appear. Click on it.
Now your clips should be listed in the upper section of the screen, they could be in the form of thumbnails or just a listing, depending on your program's settings.
Now, select the clips you want to export as MXF.
Next, click on the Edit menu, then click on the "Export to MXF" option.
Choose where you want the files copied to. Your original files on the CF card will remain intact.
When done, Click on the File menu and then click on Eject. Now you can disconnect your CF card reader and close the program.

...and you can also use the XF Utility to make a Virtual Media back up. That lets you make a file that looks like the CF card structure to the computer, but you can choose which clips to include in each. Since you're wanting bare .mxf clips, I assume your NLE will import those - many require the entire folder structure to import.

The other nice thing about XF Utility is if, like me, you are constantly tweaking custom CP files and settings. XF Utility allows me look back to see what settings I used on each clip.

I have no trouble importing bare mxf files. I do that all the time.
