A native 1080p24 .MXF clip: "exposure change"

Here's a native .MXF file, 21 seconds long, shot in 1080p24. It was submitted by DVi member Brian Rhodes. The setting is the Canon booth at NAB 2010. I'm not sure what the camera settings are. You'll notice that Brian changes exposure a few times during the clip, so I'm calling it "exposure changes." The clip is best viewed on an HDTV.

Chris, Brian:

Thank you for sharing this clip to us. Based on this clip and the previous one, it is clear that Canon XF series
is not for me. I am looking for a pro / half pro cam with fast autofocus, good stabilisation, and excellent resolution, 1080/60p mode and great low light capabilites.

This XF 300/305 has 3 of them: autofocus, stabilisation, resolution.

But EX1 has 1080/60p mode, and EX1 has lower noise.

In this clip the XF 300 has very annoying noise at the desk almost in front of the camera.

The EX series does not record at 1920x1080 60p it does do 1280x720 59.94p and frame rates listed below the Canon does the same rates plus the higher 50 mbps and 4:2:2 color space vs. 4:2:0. I agree with you on the lower noise that is probably because the EX1 has 1/2" cmos vs. 1/3" cmos, The units that Chris and I shot on were preproduction prototype cameras so I would not make a judgement based of clips shot from these cams.

HD HQ mode: 1920 x 1080/59.94i, 29.97p, 23.98p, 1440 x 1080/59.94i, 29.97p, 23.98p,1280 x 720/59.94p, 29.97p, 23.98p
HD SP mode: 1440 x 1080/59.94i
SD mode: 720 x 480/59.94i, 29.97p

hmm, yeah, i too am having an issue with noise over the whole image(still using VLC, had issues registering for canada). but again, like brian said its a pre production model that isnt color balanced nor have a picture preset. there are more (and better im sure) noise reduction settings in the picture preset for the XF series. still is hard to judge given the circumstances of the shooting settings, but if it were clear for me i think it would be a good image.

buuuttt, not a great example, i found this while searching for NAB coverage. at 4:19 you can see the XF on the big screen and even from the video it does look very nice and rich. my question is, due to it being 305 footage, if canon used the HD SDI out, the image quality would be better? if so the quality would be lost when thinking of the 300. just some thoughts i have generated.
