XF100 -- delivery in 1080p. Shoot at 1080p or 720p and enlarge?

I have two somewhat relation questions.

1) If I intend to eventually output at 1080p, are there any major disadvantages of shooting in 720p? I understand that I'll probably lose some resolution, but is it the case with the XF100 that you gain some shadow exposure latitude?

2) I've considered shooting at 1080p and editing on a 720p timeline. I'd gain the ability to reposition shots and do some motion stabilization. The final file would have to be up-rezzed to 1080p. Will I suffer too much loss in quality. (Not necessarily an XF-specific question I realize.)

Thanks
John

1. When the XF100 is set up for optimal 720 capture, it is too soft for 1080 use, IMHO. I am finding that having 720 and 1080 presets that change the camera sharpening and noise reduction settings a pratical way to deal with the problem.

The extra "latitude" I believe is not only in the shadows, it's just more noticable there. I would capture in 1080 if that was your final delivery method.

2. I would try and omit this by proper framing and good tripod/monopod/you pick the support technique when capturing the footage. But I'm lazy and hate that kind of post production work! :)

I'm from the camp the less you have to manipulate the footage from camera to delivery the better off you and your footage will be.

I'm working on a doc about bicyclists. I'll be shooting for the better part of the year. If things go well hopefully next year I'll be ready for festival submissions, etc. The "final" delivery is up in the air, but I'd like to be able to at least have the option to deliver in the largest progressive raster size.
