New XF300! Setting question

I just got my new XF300 today... very excited. I use it on my job at a university. I have been using the Xh-A1 for the past 4 years. Here is my question: What frame mode should I shoot in? Most of my content ends up in several places... our website, dvd/blu-ray, live event projection, and on TV. With my A1 I always shot in 1080i, so that is pretty much all I have known. With my new XF300, I will still shoot in HD 100% of the time, but I am wondering what flavor? I like to shoot in the highest resolution possible and then adjust downward in post if needed. What are some of your recommendations and why? I guess I am leaning toward 1080p 30, but I am just now familiarizing myself with the camera. Thanks.

Hi Scott,

Congrats on your new XF300! It's a great cam with great features. I'm coming from the XL2 and the use of CF cards from miniDV tapes is almost like night and day :)

I mainly shoot with the highest rate 50MB at 1080p at 24p, with some 720p slo mo thrown in. And these videos are for Blu Ray, DVDs, and for the web. Of course these are my personal settings. Here's our newest one on YouTube (shot at 1080p/24p; exported to 720p):

If you haven't already, you should check out Doug Jensen's XF tutorial Mastering the Canon XF305/300 Camcorders training DVD I bought it just right after I got my XF, and find it an invaluable resource.

"and find it an invaluable resource."

are ther some words about the system settings (tuning ??)
And perhaps for the Backfocus ? To set them right ?

Hi Markus,

If you mean the Profile settings for the XF, yes, Doug's tutorial does go over the settings and explains why he uses them. (I use his settings maybe 99% of the time.)

Unfortunately, the tutorial doesn't go over backfocus. Are you having backfocus issues with your XF?

"Are you having backfocus issues with your XF?"
No,
but i'd like to control it.
Like here shown, Wolfgang control it with his Sony EX1R:

Re: New XF300! Setting question

You shouldn't be able to get any back-focus issues with a fixed lens - it's only when lenses are being put on and off cameras that they can arise...
