is Canon BP-955 interchangeable with BP-945?

Hi there,
I'm interested in purchasing a small TV Logic (VFM-056WP) monitor, to make it easier to focus and check exposure during long conferences that I sometimes shoot.

TV Logic sells a bracket for this monitor that takes Canon batteries. It says it's made for Canon BP-945 (and the 930 and 970) Lithium-Ion batteries.

I own a Canon XF100, and already own two Canon BP-955 batteries, and I'd love to be able to use these, and not have to buy more batteries!
I asked a very helpful fellow at TV Logic if I could use the BP-955 instead of the 945, and he said he thinks so: "If the Canon BP-930, 945 and 970 all share the same configuration as the 955, which I think they do, then you'll be fine"

But before I press the 'buy' button, I'd love to know whether these batteries are, for all intents and purposes (or at least for my intents and purposes) interchangeable. I've done some digging around on the internet, and on the B&H website I can see that a BP-970 is 7.2 V, 6600mAh and is 2-1/4 x 2-7/8 x 1-1/2" (5.7 x 7.3 x 3.8cm), whereas the BP-955 is listed at 5200mAh; voltage for the 955 isn't specified for some reason, and the dimensions aren't given.
Another site lists the voltage of the 955 at 7.2V, the capacity at 5500mAh, and the dimensions at 70.90x38.50x60.15 mm.

To me it seems the dimensions are a bit different, but for all I know the 955 would fit perfectly where it counts... at the back, where it connects to the monitor.

Anyway, I'd love hear from someone who knows more about batteries, or who knows this TV Logic Canon bracket.
thanks,
Malcolm

This, from Canon themselves............

Canon Direct Store- BP-955

Seems it's compatible with everything.

Hi Chris,
I'm a bit dense this morning I think, so please tell me if I'm following your logic properly.

- I went to your linked page, and I can see that the BP-955 is compatible with the GL2, XF100, XH A1, XH A1S, XH G1 and the XL2.

- I then went to Canon USA's site for the XH G1, where it says that the XH G1 uses the BP-970G (along with the BP-950G) battery.

The inescapable Sherlockian deduction from the above would seem to be that, since that the BP-955 fits on the back of the same camera as the BP-970G, and given that the TV Logic Canon bracket accepts the BP-970G... the BP-955 will also fit onto the Canon bracket.

Does all of this make sense? Sorry to question what may seem so obvious, but I want to be 100% sure.
thanks,
Malcolm

Malcom -- rest assured, it is indeed fully compatible. Hope this helps,

Yes, that's all the reassurance I need.
Thanks very much,

As Chris said, all the BP batteries will work fine with the TV logic plates......we've been selling the BP970 battery with the 5.6 and that battery will run the monitor 8-9 hours (the battery runs the XFs almost 8hrs)

Hi Jim,
Yes, the BP970 was tempting, but I already have two BP955s for my XF100, and want to be able to use those (at conferences I always find a way to power my camera via DC connection, so my batteries would otherwise just be sitting there).
I also really like the BP955 because they have the LED lights that tell me how much charge they still have.
I'll be curious to see how long they'll last though. Some of these conferences go 6 or 7 hours.
Regards,
Malcolm
