Surfskis Action shot with XF300
 

This video has been shot with the XF300 & Libec LANC controller on a lowered Manfrotto lightweight carbon tripod. Part of it was shot using the LCD screen with a Hoodman Loupe & neoprene fastener, the other part using the viewfinder. Both are great depending on the height you can work at. Edited in PP5.5 with small levels adjustments.

Biggest problem was the tripod sinking into the soft beach sand, hard to keep the horizon level. There is a camper bubble level fixed to a small Libec fluid head, which helps for fast setups. Shot from 4 different locations. There was just over an hour of footage on one 32 gig Sandisk Extreme card, cut to about 8 1/2 minutes.

The Surfskis are flat water Olympic class racing skis, but are being "tested" in some choppy surf. Note the GoPro on the yellow ski paddler's chest, footage not used due to time constraints.

Hi Doug - thanks for sharing that - love your stuff!

I had a question about white balance - Were you shooting auto or did you set a custom balance? It looks similar to my shots when I use Doug Jensen's CP settings - which is to say kind of dark and kind of green. I don't mean to be critical at all - it just looks like MY footage when I use that CP file, and it isn't a look I'm after.

I had to run footage shot on those settings through some pretty significant grading to get the colors back to neutral, using Red Giant's Colorista II - I clicked on something that I knew was neutral grey (concrete in this case) and clicked on it, and it brought the white balance.

Or is this the look you were after? The water is kind of green, as is the sky - but maybe those are the actual colors? I'm trying to figure this out myself - the colors in your other videos that came up look more neutral...

The white balance is set to 6000 Kelvin for outdoor shooting, the profile is Doug J's 001. Manual everything.
