XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
Apparently nobody's using 10.8 with their XF100, right? I just ran into a snag, where apparently 10.8 will no longer recognize XF100 video files. Strangely enough, Quicktime Player can play them, but neither FCP7, Compressor or MPEG Streamclip can decode or convert them.
Any ideas out there? |
Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
I'm able to log and transfer just fine with Mountain Lion in FCP 7. Are you on the latest update version of FCP 7?

Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
i have problem doing log and transfer in Mountain Lion too
My FCP is 7.03 |
Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
Try this, read from the CONTENTS folder
If you copy the files to hard disk and do the Log & Transfer, make sure your folder include CONTENTS |
Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
I've already done the log and transfer (as "native" using the plugin). I went back to a project from a few months ago, and the .MOV files I imported are showing as unusable in Final Cut Pro.
According to Canon's website, their 10.8 drivers are not yet available. They say "October" and recommend staying on 10.7 for now. Oy vey. :( |

here's what FCP 7.0.3 says when I open the project that has the (already downloaded) videos in it:

Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
I upgraded to Mountain Lion and I am using FCP 7.0.3. I have version 1.3.0 of the XF Utility installed. I have no problems importing videos into FCP.
Here is my typical workflow: 1. Put CF Card in reader 2. Open XF Utility 3. Create new virtual media 4. Cut/Paste everything from the card into the new virtual media 5. Open FCP 6. Open Log and Transfer, browse to the location of the virtual media 7. Select the videos I want to use on my FCP video. Based on your error, you may want to try and reinstall the XF Utility... Have you tried that? Best of luck. |
Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
Mountain Lion doesn't allow you to install XF utility and the FCP plugin

beware Mountain L and Canon FX plug in - fcp.co I'm not sure if it will work, but it may be worth a shot until Canon comes out with the official XF Utility support for Mountain Lion. Here is the direct link to the XFCPX utility: XFCPX |
Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
well, aparently canon is releasing new plugins for ML sometime this month but in the meantime I did the same hack to the system's version to make it read as Lion instead (the same hack some of us did to instal the FCPX plugin on Snow Leopard)

Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
And now it's November, and still nothing. I'm completely disgusted.

Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
I've been using the XF100 quite happily with Mountain Lion and Premiere Pro CS6. What's the problem again?
Just ingested another 14 (fourteen!) full 32GB cards again tonight using ML. |
Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
10.8 upgrade rendered FCP unable to import or read XF100 MXF files. I am working around that by converting to ProRes using a 3rd party utility, but that's a giant PITA.

Re: XF100: No Love for Mountain Lion 10.8
As of 11/29, Canon has posted a new XF Plugin (2.1.1) and a new XF Utility (1.3.1) for Mountain Lion. Although I already had XF Utility working because it was already installed when I updated to Mountain Lion, I installed this new one anyway along with the Plugin - no issues of any kind. I'm using FCPX only.
The plugin History just says it's for 10.8 compatibility. The XF Utility says 10.8 compatibility AND it drops support for OSX 10.5. Here's the XF100 page: Canon U.S.A. : Professional Imaging Products : XF100 |

And now Canon is back to asking for a serial number.....
