25f or 50i in lowlight?

hey guys,
i know this site is flooded with info on 25f vs 50i and must apologise in advance for asking such a question that i could probably find out by doing some research BUT- it seems all these topics end up in a debate as to who prefers which and why.

Im preparing for my first wedding the A1 on friday and Im a bit concerned about the lowlight situations I know Im going to find myself in.
Im wasn't too concerned with 25f for any reason but 2 minutes ago I reconstructed a similar lighting setup as in a hotel for the dancing later in the night (ireland remember).
So on trying to get the best possible picture in lowlight I think i've noticed that on 25f at 1/25fps it looks very acceptable.
in 50i mode 1/25fps is a little slow and blurry.
So, considering this, on the face of it it would seem to me that I can let twice as much light into the cam in 25f mode than 50i due to the shutter speed 1/25th looking better in 25f mode.

are ye with me on this? am i correct?
i suppose im looking for the best possible setup for lowlight while avoiding having to gain up. and id like to know how those of you who capture lowlight event stuff prepare for this with A1.

I just got the VL-10 light but found it way too harsh so i bought a flash diffuser that elastics around it. it works well and doesen't melt!
it does cut down a bit too much on the power though.
