Canon A1 with Glidecam 2000
 

Got my glidecam 2000 a while ago but I am finally getting a chance to use it.

After using some tips found around here I got it blanced!

Here are the results of my 2nd attempt to use the camera:

I think the more I practice the better it will get. The walk down the hall of fame showcase looks pretty good IMO and even holds up when it is slowed down and has a nice feel to it, 100x better than my walking hand held at least.

Still seems a little off balance...it tends to rock a little in the walking backwards shot.

yeah, I think it was mainly from my guide hand and not feeling comfortable walking backwards. I just don't do it that often :-p

As I play with it more inside I have found for shots that do are simple trucking or dolly shorts (is that the right name?) I do better by just holding onto the handle and not attempting to guide it.

More practice will help.

I used this glidecam too once and it´s not as easy as it looks. You are very good at it already! The fast running shots were impressively smooth.

It is a little problem that it´s swaying left and right sometimes. Maybe you should try to work on that a little more. But it still looks great.
Do you hold the handle with both hands? What do you do with your second hand? My friend who owns a glidecam tries to stabilize the swaying by gently pushing or holding the rod under the camera but I think that´s not a good idea since it partly destroys the whole purpose of the glidecam.

Maybe you should also practice walking slowly. I think you passed the trophy-case too quickly.

Any way: Very impressive. Maybe I should talk my friend into using the glidecam more again. :)

You are supposed to use one hand to support the weight on the padded handle. Then with your other hand use two fingers to lightly guide the main column which allows you to pan and tilt as needed. If you were going to walk straight and not need to change the angle at all you should be able to do it with just the one hand supporting the weight. As for the speed, I ended up slowing it down in post and I think it does look better slower but you can certainly still see the bumps more but I think it changes the feeling a bit.
