EWA housing with A1

Has anyone used a EWA housing with the Canon A1?

Max depth will be 10 feet down shooting. Most of my shooting is at water level to 2 feet. My one concern is if you can attach a wide angle lens.

i've shot EWA housings with a GL2 and an FX-1, not an A1 (although i own the camera)...my experience with EWA housings is that they are pretty snug and don't allow much room for accessories. you could probably e-mail them directly and ask about your specific accessory.

Thanks Meryem,

The only thing I would like to add is the wide angle. I did e-mail EWA but no response yet.

Thanks

not as full featured as the EWA housing, but have you check out Epic underwater cases?

I had the EWA Housing for my GL2, and it pretty much required the wide angle lense in order to fit perfectly snug. Plus the wide-angle was prefered and recommended because the waters effect zooms like a lense. When I inquired to EWA about the A1 regarding the release of the housing, they got back to me in about 4 days. Just an FYI.

I've used the same EWA housing for my GL2 roughly twice per month for the past 4-5 years. I'm going to get one for the HV20 when it becomes available.
they take a while to get back to you. I'm sure you will be able to use a WA and they come with adapters for a snug fit if you don't. You'll be fine at 10 feet.

It's a great product and will keep your lunch fresh too.

Paul,
Which wide angle lens are you wanting to use?

Paul Cronin October 12th, 2007 04:04 PM

Joe,

I would be using the Canon WD-H72 wide angle.

Joe the Gates housing you sell looks excellent but more then I need. I never use tanks only at the surface shooting boats. Do you sell a option that might work?

Paul,
Unfortunately it doesn't look like that wide angle adapter will work.
Ewa-Marine actually makes a wide angle adapter, but it is a 58mm, so it won't work with this camera either.

The adapter they made is much shorter, which allows it to fit within the confines of the housing, without causing problems.

The Gates housing is the only one we carry for the XH cameras.

There are some other housings out there for the A1, but the optics aren't nearly as good as what Gates provides.

We do have a rental housing that may work for your situation.
