On camera mic mount
 

So, i dont know if this has been covered or not, but I went to put my AT4073 on my A1 and it doesn't fit? So I did the whole paper towel trick on the mic and made it work for the time being. Anyone know of a different mic mount that replaces the original one so that it will fit the mic tight like it should?

Generally I think users get a shoe mounted shockmount and use that. I find the on-camera holder works easily enough if I slip a small piece of foam in there.

The Rycote CCA adapter works a treat, snug fit into the mic mount, lifts the mic an inch and half higher from the camera, has excellent isolation and can be fitted backwards, allowing long shotguns to be more towards the rear of the camera and thus out of frame when using dead cats.


Worth checking out. There are other similar products around as well.

So, canon doenst make a replacement for the on camera mount...what a bummer..

I second Chris's suggestion. I've been using the CCA since I bought my XH-A1. The only time I've had issues with it is when the wind is pretty strong. It sits up high enough to catch the wind and shake the camera.

I use a Rode SM5 shock mount, fits in the existing A1 clamp raising a shotgun mic in a banded vibration mount above the wide angle adaptor FOV and dead cat stray fur.

Yeah i think i have a old Azden hot-shoe mount that might work...thx for the input guys.

Hey, when I was shopping for cameras, one store had this rubber insert ring in the XH-A1 for holding regular sized mics. It turned out to be a sony part. I was able to order it from Sony Parts directly.

I use a Beyer Dynamic EA86 shock mount on a Hama angled hot-shoe extension. This neat little Hama gadget raises the mic about 2 inches and allows it then to be angled up a bit more, to keep the dead cat out of view. The two items together were less than £20 and work very well.
