XLR mic
 

Folks I have a 2 microphone setup, a short shotgun mic and a Sennheiser wireless receiver which I leave both mounted on my camera all the time. In the Ch1 I have plugged in my shotgun mic and in Ch2 I have plugged in the wireless.

My question is this,.. when I want to use only my shotgun mic I slide the XLR switch to Ch1Ch2,.. and when I want to use the wireless and the shotgun mic together, I need to slide the switch to Ch1 "only". I know theirs probably a good reason behind this but does the labeling sound reversed?

It is the same way on my DVC30. It means that the CH1 XLR input is being split to both channels (Ch1 and Ch2.) I think the Pana markings are a little more obvious. In the Input 2 switch section, it says Ch Select. That indicates where the Input 2 audio is going, to Ch1 and 2 or just Ch 2.

Jonathan I purchased these Neutrik right angle xlr connector online. With a little patience and solder I replace the straight XLR connectors with the right angle connectors. And as you can see the end result is more trim camera profile. Some online audio stores will actually build you custom XLR cable to order.

Roger: for connecting to the XLR input of the A1, it's the male end that needs to be angled.

I just bought a Rode NTG1 shotgun mic kit that included the same kind of cable you linked to. Backwards... :-(

Eric I'm using the Sennheiser Evolution G100 ENG model. So far I've been real happy with it. The receiver is small enough that I leave it on the camera full time, so that if I need the lavalier mic or the ENG it's as easy as pulling it out of my bag and turning it on. Though I should say that I have limited experience with other wireless units.
