Alternate version of my reel

I decided that the long and sobering version of my reel is not going to cut it for those wanting to see more in less time so I created another version of it. This one goes from 5 minutes to 1 minute and I still managed not only to retain all the shots but add 8 more!

720p version is up now for a limited time. I'll be uploading a quicktime file to replace it soon.

Steven,

I'm downloading the video now but in the mean time I had a question about the music you mentioned in your last post.

You said "an original soudtrack is create" or something to that effect. Do you compose the music or do you know of someone that does?

By the way I saw the video and my take is the imagery is too good to zip on by. The cuts are too quick.

Hello Steven,

For what it's worth, I feel your alternate reel is a bit rushed. Excellent shots, no question. Catchy soundtrack, but hardly any time to notice or appreciate the shots. I understand what you are trying to accomplish and it's a great idea, but I think there’s a fine line for getting that rushed feeling and being too drawn out.

Yeah, I have to agree that the pace is too fast but, man, it's fun to watch :)

I'll find a happy medium.

Steven,

It is fun to watch. In fact, I'd like to see some of those clips in the long version. I mean it's the "long" version so what's another 30 seconds or a minute?

Steve Bartlett November 14th, 2007 08:33 PM

For what it's worth, Steven, I think you've got two or three "filler" clips in there that could probably be taken out and then you could lengthen some of the others out a bit. I think that it's brilliant and far be it from me to adequately critique such fine work. It's REAL good.

I think that the best one would be one somewhere in between the long and the short. If I had to pick one of the two I would go with the short. The long one stays on every shot for too long.
The videos are awesome. It is matching the timing of editing with the music that's a killer.

Great clips to work with anyway.

Steven when I am famous with lots of money and in the know, you're the first person I will call. I love your work.

I, for one loved the long version. I want to be able to soak up the visuals - especially visuals as amazing as these. The short reel was waaaaaayyy too fast for me. But I can understand how some people might like the rapid pace. Everyone is different.

Doug Davis November 16th, 2007 12:39 PM

I liked the short one simply because I wanted more of it... That's always an accomplishment when someone wants more of your work not less... Just a thought...

Paul Cronin November 16th, 2007 03:58 PM

I agree Doug keep it short and if they are hungry for more the demo reel did its job and you talk work.

The girl baseball team shots has a feel of "Any Given Sunday".. nice..

I would take out shots of the boy standing around in shorts.. they look too "normal" too me and have the feel of a "home video". Perhaps if the boy is dressed more eccentric, then it could work out.

It also wouldn't hurt to experiment with adding some clip audio to it. The shot of the kid sliding to home base would really kick ass if accompanied with the sound of sliding across gravel/dirt..
