72mm ExpoImaging

I was looking into getting one of these for my canon XH A1, anyone know where i can find the 72mm version?

Also how exactly do they work, and is this a good idea for making it easier to whitebalance the camera while we are shooting from the boat?

Hi Alessandro............

I'm going to assume (always dangerous) that you're talking about the ExpoDisc Video?

Your best bet for info is going to be their web site, where they list the dealer network. It covers how they work and most other things you could want to know.

I can't find anything on their site that actually says what sizes they're made in (but I didn't check the stills bit).

As for working on a boat, can't see why not, seem to work everywhere else.

You're post reminded me, I checked these things out months ago and put the "lens cap" version on my "do get one of those" lists which, as per usual, has ended up at the bottom of a massive pile of other "you must do this" lists.

Just Google "Expodisc" and you should get a straight hit.

Yea, i was looking for maybe someone who has actually used one to tell me if the white balancing is decent to spend the $115 on them.

They make a 72mm which would fit the XH A1.

I guess what i want to know is whats the difference between the ExpoDisc Whitebalance aid, and the Expodisc white balance filter...

Took some doing..........

but a thorough search of their site did, finally, give me an answer to your question.

The "filter" was their original product, manufactured with a plastic surround ring. This is no longer made or sold.

The ExpoDisc is the current product with a metal surround ring.

That's it.

I use the 77mm Expodisc for my Canon EOS 20D and would not shoot without it, it gives you perfect white balance every time and is so easy to use. I just ordered a 72mm one off of ebay for $52.00 for my XH-A1 and can't wait to use it... Here is a video that gives you a good idea on what the Expodisc is about, http://www.expodisc.com/support/videotutorials.php

Would this be the one I should get for my Canon XH A1?

I just use a couple of coffee filters instead of the expodisk. Very good color balance and cheap.

Coffee filters work great... just use two of them, costs you about $0.03. Or you can find the 72mm ExpoDisc at B&H for $95 + S&H...
