Presets and The Settings
 

New member and first post.

First, I want to thank Chris (as so many have) and wanted to say thanks also to all who share their knowledge. I’m not a professional video/film guy, my knowledge is challenged, but my interest is great. I’ve used this forum so much to learn about the craft.

Since I’m a new A1 user, I thought I would ask this question here. I’ve recently moved up from my GL2 to the A1, and have taken full advantage of the presets shared here. As the curious guy I am, I do want to know the technical aspects to all those wonderful settings (knee, setup, pedestal, etc.) and how there adjustments contribute to the awesome images I’m getting. I’m not asking for a long tutorial from anyone here, just trying to get pointed in the right direction to any previous posts, links, or books. I’ve searched some, but thought the your opinions on good sources would help.

i'm like you, i just got my a1 last week so i'm still struggling to grasp this camera's capabilities!

As usual, best education will be hands on.

Canon’s site is a good start, but I’ll still be looking for more descriptive (and applicable) information. Good example is their settings for blacks. (3 settings that are “user's personal preference”).

One things for sure, I know what looks good, just havent figured out how to tanslate it into my camera/editing. I definatly have a new respect for camera persons, film makers, and broadcast Engineers. TV and Cinema will never be the same.

We’ll see what the weekend brings.
