CF recording unit idea
Please contact Canon if you want a CF recording unit similar to what is coming with the Sony Z7U. I don't know if they can do anything about it, but it sure would be nice to have the capability.
Surely it wouldn't be that difficult to create. I'm surprised that some 3rd-party doesn't already have something available. I'd buy one in a heartbeat -- in fact I'm considering selling my XHA1 just to get the capability. This is the reply address from when I inquired: CareCenter@cits.canon.com Otherwise, use the form at the support link on the XH series page at usa.canon.com |
With all the Canon & Sony announcements of Flash based cams at CES, I am hoping for an updated flash based XH-A1 at NAB.
|
I just hope that it's a firmware update (I'm willing to pay for it) as opposed to a whole new unit just to get the feature. If I could have the capability to write .m2t to both flash and tape, THAT would be sweet -- though I'd feel a bit bummed that I'd spent $800 on a FireStore.
So, let's go for firmware update that utilizes the already existing CF slot!! |

Doh. *insert embarrassed emoticon here*
I got mixed up with another thread that suggested using the SD card. CF...SD...same thing, right? :) j/k |
According to my local Sony dealer, Sony is planning on selling the CF recorder
as a separate item as well as include with Z7. It has a IEEE 1394 port, so you can come out of the firewire of your Canon A1 and it records m2t. I have no idea what it would sell for though. Cheers. |
The issue with this however is that you may very well be restricted to HDV 50/60i as the Sony decks on the outset cannot read Canon Frame mode with 2:3 pulldown. They CAN however read Canon interlaced modes.
If thats the limitation, then a firmware upgrade for the Flash recording deck would be able to sort this issue out, but I honestly do not see Sony doing this for Canon users. |

I started a similar thread a couple of weeks ago: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=110058 I don't know if it will be possible for Canon to make a firmaware solution to be able to record to the SD card in the camera. In my world, it would be possible: - The interface to the card is electrical ready as you can store stills on it. - The HDV codec is ready. - The interface to the tape system is ready as the camcorder records to tape. I guess whats needed is a software module working as an interface, converting the tape signals to SD signals. Perhaps Canon waits for 16GB SDHC cards entering the market to get record times about an hour. Or perhaps it's not possible at all! Regards, /Bo |
XL-h1 and MRU1
Canon XL-H1 works with Sony HVR Z7-s CF card recorder. Just tested :)
