ATTn

hey guys do i need to worry about the ATTn if i get the sound stright from the board? What do you guys think i should worry about or what to look for if i get my sound from the board? Do the length of the cable matter? Thanks in advance.

If you can get a standard balanced XLR line signal from an audio board, then just set your camera for “line input” and you should not need attenuation. Also good balanced cables are good for relatively long distances. Also helps if the sound guy knows what he is doing.

Poor old sound guy...hmmm

Sound guys really know much more than you give them credit for. I have often given a matrix stereo feed or simple line out to a camera man. Most have some difficulty understanding their own audio controls, especially in a darkened theatre. You could say im a poacher turned gamekeeper having some years experience on both sides of the fence. I personally learned my camera audio controls using various audio sources from home stereo feeds to full blown professional sound desk feeds. I find the sound man to be my best friend when recording theatre gigs music or otherwise. The canon audio XLR section has smallish switches but it is not too difficult to get a good grasp of and works well in my opinion. Practice makes perfect. Good audio makes for a good shoot. Peace out.
