Using Steven's custom presets.
 

Anyone using Steven Dempseys PANALOOK2 and VIVIDRGB custom presets, do you have preferred scenes you use them with? EG: indoors verses outdoors, major red in the scene, landscapes, interviews etc.

There are other great CPs up at the top of this board, but I'm into those 2 at present. Both are great.

Allan... I too have started using some different presets and like some, but not all, of what VIVIDRGB gives me. The rich deep colors are great for nature shots but stay away from it when shooting in a snow field as it can give snow a reddish caste. Here's an example of that. Look in the second half of the clip. The red snow's in there, but I did squash the effect a bit with CC in post.

Also, don't use VIVIDRGB on subjects that have very saturated colors to start with, like race cars. Their cartoon-like color screens will make your vectorscope explode with wildly extra-legal values. I used that setting last weekend and had to desaturate as much as 30% (70% of the original value) to bring the colors back in line. Here's how it ended up looking. http://vimeo.com/926832

I'm going to go back to the stock settings for shooting this weekend's race and see how different it looks.

I completely understand. I shot a custom car show in Cleveland a few months back and the wild paintjobs really pop off of the screen. And I used VIVIDRGB.

I've since switched to the PANALOOK preset and am working with that one for now.
