Gain and preset gain

On the A1 there gain setting everyone says to keep it down on 0 or -3 because gain produces grain in the footage. In the custom presets there is color gains such as red green blue ect. My question is that does boosting the color gains in the custom presets also produce grain just like the main gain control?

Not that I'm aware of. What you are doing with the external gain switches is adding a bit of light to the sensor, which increases its sensitivity (at the expense of added noise). The color gain does not 'flash' the sensor, its an algorithm adjustment.

From what I've seen, no it does not. +30 R isn't the same as +6db gain. At least not in the way of visible noise.

That's right. If you crank up the red, you get a redder image. You crank up the gain, it's like shooting with faster film--more exposure but a grainier image.
