The A1 used as the primary camera in Crank 2!
|
The A1 is finally being used in a major motion picture and nobody has anything to say.
Wow... |
There were several articles about this a few months ago and everybody probably said all there is to say. It will be interesting to rent both Crank 1 and 2 and watch them side by side to see the different looks.

Jerrod,
Did you notice the grain in those screen shots?? |
Crank 1 features lots of XL2 shots.
I think the XH-A1 camera is a nice match for Neveldine and Taylor style. I guess they'll love the RED Scarlet then! |
I think everyone will. XD

These are 2 interesting quotes from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor:
Mark: It’s something actually we develop in camera. We’re shooting for the last 7 years. We love the fast digital shutter and lots of geeky things that you don’t care about, but like shooting with negative 3 gain and we do an in-camera look that is very aggressive and that scares everybody, but we filmed it out and we tested it and it works and it looks amazing on the screen. I remember Jason Statham said on day one, he said “wow, this looks like Crank 1 but better.” That’s what we’re shooting for. Brian: We do almost everything in camera. We’ve never been a big fan of trying to make the look in post. ------------ I wonder what other preset items they use... |

Somebody set them up for a Crank 2 article in American Cinematographer, please. |
