Mutiple A1s and live SD video mixing - how do you do it?
 

How do people use multiple A1s or an A1 in combination with another camera (like a HVX200) in a live SD (not HD) video mixing situation?

Any and all advice/insight would be truly appreciated!

I'm needing to select from multiple SD sources (component, S-video, or composite) - one of those being at least one A1 - feed them into a video mixer (like the HS-500), actively switch between them to create one analog output signal (component) to stream live over the Internet via a computer.

I've discovered there are not many cost-effective video mixers (I've found two: HS-500 and Edirol V4) to use in this scenario and both of these mixers do not accept component input - only composite and s-video.

Since the A1 doesn't have s-video out the quality of the streamed video is down to composite - no better than a $300 consumer camcorder!

The cheapest video mixer I've found with component inputs is the $5,500 Panasonic AG-MX70 - way out of my budget.

There is also a DV version, the SE-800DV.

Don't forget that you need to monitor the signals. The DataVideo mixers can co this several ways.

We just put a DataVideo SE-800DV in a small studio and it works very, very well... with a lot of features that are very useful and make the job easier.

Thanks Jack! The SE-800AV looks like a great fit! Since I'll be using this at remote locations I need to make it as a portable as possible including the video monitoring. That is what attracted me to the HS-500.

I wonder if there is a way to put the 800 in the HS portable rig instead of the 500. I'll contact DV and ask but if you have any other suggestions relative to including the portable video monitoring - I'd be interested to hear them. Since you installed it in a studio I'm guessing you didn't have to worry about that.

We got the bank of 4 little monitors from DataVideo. Also, we output the program to a large lcd on the wall.

However, I believe you can monitor the inputs on a small, inexpensive TV set. The board will output a split screen picture, showing all the inputs.

As far as possible setups and portability and available cases, I would definitely telephone DataVideo.

For your web broadcast, your final result might be just as good with the DataVideo 500. I would ask DataVideo about this.
