yet one more question about AGC, sorry!

ok, we've all established that AGC really does have to be OFF to eiliminate alot of grain, BUT my question is:

when you have AGC OFF, you don't get the prompt for the ND filter (like you do when you have AGC ON), gutted!!

so is it a rule to turn AGC back to ON when it's bright outside to get those prompts? or is there another way round this?

cheers

Richard,
This is my OPINION so take it as that. Always shoot in manual where exposure is concerned. The only time I would put a camera in auto would be if it is unmanned, and you suspect the light to change. Especially with a camera like this, the real power is in using the functions manually. I haven't given AGC one single thought since I've had this camera mainly becuase I don't want to trust the camera on gain, that goes with any camera, the auto gain is dangerous.

I'm pretty sure I still get ND warnings with the autogain turned OFF. Now I'll have to check.

But regardless, you can use the exposure meter to determine if you need the ND on and at what setting - you just have to remember to turn it off after you don't need it or you'll be wondering what the hell - I've done that before

Yes, there is the ND warning. Or, you can just check your exposure. If it's too hot, you need the ND.

thanks guys, i need to look into checking the exposure reading...because i film weddings, i've often taken the lazy route of using Auto but the more i use these great camcorders, the more i now feel i should understand them fully...
