Dropping XH-A1 on the floor

I mounted my beloved XH-A1 on a $20 flash bracket with the Canon WA lens adapter, NTG-1 mic, a Canon VL-10 light and the LP Micro light. All of a sudden, my whole rig fell out of the top of the tripod. First I thought it was the tripod quick release plate. After I examined the pieces, it was the screw from the flash bracket that can't hold everything and broke into 2 pieces. The camera actually hit a little girl in front of me. She was alright. I think without her, my Xh-A1 will be in pieces.

OH man... that had to hurt the A1 is pretty heavy on its own but to add in the wide angle! Ouch! Glad to hear the little girl is OK and it seems that everything is OK with you canon? I will stay away from the plastic brackets! :-p

The XH-A1 landed on the little girl's shoulder. otherwise, it shall be in CAnon repair shop :)

Anyway, that's not a plastic flas bracket. I bought mine at Samy's camera but it is exactly like this one

Perhaps it should have landed on the floor. The repair shop bill will be much cheaper than defending the million dollar lawsuit that the little girl's parents might bring..unless you were lucky enough that the poor little girl was your daughter ;)

haha there is no law suit. But I also have a million dollar liability coverage.

That was one wicked drop...you, your camera and the little girl are very lucky.

I bought mine at the store of Samy's camera in Southern California. It happens to look exactly like the one in B&H. Actually, the same (or similar one) can be found in amazon.com and adorama too.

Liability Insurance

Wow... I guess that demonstrates the reason to have liability coverage whenever you are shooting pro!

Taky Cheung August 19th, 2008 07:08 PM

Also, there're many hotels, cruise ship, resort... requires vendor to carry liability insurance. But it's good to have it. I got my gear stolen once. Got 80% of the money back from insurance too.

Why did you mount the camera of a flash bracket?
