micro-scuffs on lens - lens replacement
 

I have a minor scuff on the lens ----- there is absolutely no visual effect on the image from what I can see ---- but I'm curious, how costly is to replace the lens? I'm seeing anything online. I'm surprised lens replacement hasn't come up on the forum. Thanks.

Hasn't come up 'cos it's so rare, I guess.

If you really, truly can't see any visual effect on the shot footage (I hasten to add, on a full HD screen) then I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, but buy a decent UV filter to screw on the lens so it can't happen again.

If you can notice it, well, guess corrective action is necessary, tho' from what little I know, don't think it's quite as bad as you may think.

Seems (this the distillation of many post over many, many months) that the A1 lens is a sealed module with the exception of the front element, which I guess is expected to take it's fair share of abuse if the user isn't carefull.

In your case I guess they'd simply drop the internals out and put them in a new "tube" tho' can't for the life of me say what that would cost.

Absolutely no real answer to your question, but the best I can do I'm afraid.

Is there anything noticeable when you shoot into the light? That's when it would probably show up the most?

The front piece of glass is just that, a piece of plane (flat) optical glass that protects the VAP.

Anything physical on it might be seen in the image, especially if the lens surface is side lit and you are in bright light that nets max depth of field.

But if you can't see it or related artifacts in the image, not to worry.

i strongly suggest you pick up a UV filter
