Zoom Bar or Zoom Numbers???

I noticed I have the option of displaying the current camera zoom in the standard bar format or by numbers.

What do you use on your camera?
What are the benefits of these two methods?
Thanks for the input!

In my opinion the numbers are much more useful. They'll
help you to return to a specific zoom position for instance.

very true, I'm finding them very helpful. I also like that they don't take up a lot of screen real estate like the zoom bar does.

Hi Guys,

How do you change the setting from zoom bar to zoom numbers?

Thanks
Matthew

From page 88 of your XH series operator's manual...

Menu > Customize > Custom Function > Tune > Slot 12 (Zoom Indicator) > Position 01 (Number)

The zoom numbers are good for reference when you're at the track and you want to shoot the cars racing by, by zooming to a predetermined number to cover the car(s).

Or in my case, a plane taking off. I've got listed zoom numbers for each size a/c as it reaches the point directly opposite the A1.

Kinda takes the pressure off by knowing exactly where you stop zooming to get the framing you want, allows more concentration on following the action.

Last year I did an equestrian event, first noted the zoom numbers at each of the jumps for confident zooms and how close to rack in for the finals. Chalked up a slate.

When they raised the bar to 6' I went to get a drink while I could still reach it :) Old joke sorry Chris.

Cheers.

Excellent! I just changed it from bar to numbers. It's one of the many things i overlooked in the manual and didn't even know that it was possible.

The numbers are also quite helpful when setting up a 35mm adapter and zooming in on the ground glass.
