No AV/DV in?

Is there really no way to do an AV to DV conversion or passthrough on the A1?

I have some Hi8 tape I need to convert to digital and get into FCP. My Sony PD150 had a AV/DV conversion passthrough. I never even checked on the A1 before now. I just assumed it would do it. All I see in the manual looks like signal out only.

I sold my A1 so I cannot find the exact spot for you but in In the camera setup menu when in VCR mode you should be able to enable AV->DV

Should do what you want.

Thanks. I did see that. I just don't see any directions for how to do it in the manual.

Try this

In VCR

Menu-> Signal Setup -> AV-DV- set to ON

Then plug the RCA cable from the camera into your source. Hit play on source and it will then appear on your Camera screen and will be passed through to the firewire port as DV Video. The camera will not convert video if it sees a copyright flag.

Thanks. It's my stuff so there won't be a copyright flag. Now I just have to go through 100 drawers of cables, etc., until I find all the right connectors :-/

Sorry for the simple question. I should have been able to figure this out myself.

Thanks for your responses.
