Grit under the iris ring!

Hi all,

Had a beach shoot a few weeks ago in terrible conditions with the A1 - very windy and lots of sand. I thought the camera came away unscathed but have just noticed a 'gritty' feeling when turning the iris ring. I'm 99% sure there's a little sand under there.

Ideally I'd prefer not to send it in for service as I have a busy period coming up. Has anybody successfully cleaned under the iris ring (or any of the rings for that matter)? I'm game to have a shot at it but want to know the easiest way to get at it.

Cheers!

You're not the first to suffer this. Consensus is that it will work its way out and the grinding will disappear.

Hi

I also have this problem. It started sometimes this summer and it sometimes dissapears, sometimes comes back. I guess there is something behind the ring that woun't come of by itself. I have had the cam sent to service fore other issues and asked if they could clean up behind the ring, but they said that to disasemble the rings they have to remove the optic housing which ment that the camcorder has to be completely dismounted. As I understand the optical house is sealed so nothing from underneath the rings can come in to it.

Regards,

/Bo
