Fireworks what settings?

Hey everyone,

What preset would you recommend for taping fireworks on July 4th? What exposure etc? Thanks in advance!

Hi Jack

There are several threads on this topic. I shot this last year
Fireworks on Vimeo

following the tips on this thread:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/canon-xh-...fireworks.html

I did not use any preset, used TV mode with the speed set to 1/25, with the focus on the launching position.

Thank you David!

Quick question that I didn't see on the other thread.. I have an expo disc.

1. Is it possible to use this at night (never tried but i imagine the lack of light would make it difficult)

2. How should I white balance without the expo disc?

Interesting question and one that I hadn't considered. I shot fireworks at two racing events last summer and never changed my WB. Everything looked fine.

Shooting something that generates its own light, fireworks, in a lightless environment makes WB somewhat irrelevant. Black balance would be more relevant, but I've never used a camera with that setting.

You might want to dial in 5600K and be done with it. The colors may not be accurate but it really wouldn't matter if they are slightly askew. Who's going to notice?
